Day 10-13: Half Way There!

Today’s Earnings: $2.72     |      Total Earned: $50.03      |      Remaining: $49.97

Over the weekend, I took a break from the challenge to spend time with family. To get back on track, I spent two hours this evening doing Survey Junkie surveys.

While watching TV, I started and/or completed 16 surveys and made $2.72. For many of the surveys, I did not meet the criteria and was given two to three points for trying. After about two hours, the site did not have any surveys left to access.

Survey Junkie is often recommended by bloggers which surprises me. My guess is that the bloggers are being sponsored by Survey Junkie to attract participants or the users qualify for more surveys resulting in higher earnings.

Once this monthly challenge is over, it is very unlikely that I will continue doing surveys. They don’t seem to be worth the time or effort. Granted, I have only tried one survey site so it is possible that my earnings could be higher if I tested more sites.

Until tomorrow.

Day 9: Another Day, Another Dollar.

Today’s Earnings: $9.11     |      Total Earned: $47.31      |      Remaining: $52.69

Tonight, I earned $9.11 for this month’s challenge. I started work at 9pm once the kids were asleep.

I chose to do transcriptions knowing that I can make more money transcribing audio files than through the other sites that I identified in my initial challenge guidelines.

While doing the transcriptions, I encountered some unexpected audio issues and had to do extra research to make sure the transcription details were correct which slowed me down.

In the end, I averaged about $4.50 an hour which was my minimum wage when I was 16-years old just over 25 years ago. The totals are below:

Earning $100.00 via online sources continues to be harder than it looks especially so late at night when all you really want to do is go to sleep or relax in front of the television.

Nevertheless, I am determined to keep this particular challenge alive until the 30-day mark!

Tomorrow, I hope to be at the halfway point.

Until tomorrow,

Claire

Day 7-8: I’m Getting Closer to $100

Today’s Earnings: $23.03     |      Total Earned: $38.20      |      Remaining: $61.80

I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now that I’ve earned just over a third of my planned $100 goal. Staying consistent is the key to this challenge especially when you have limited time like me.

Today and yesterday, after the kids went to bed, I did one transcription and numerous surveys from Survey Junkie.

With Survey Junkie, you must reach $10 before they will send the money to your PayPal account. The process is not automatic. You have to click on the redeem button within the site and verify your address. The process to have the money transferred was seamless and it appeared in PayPal within a minute or so.

Day 5-6: Success! I Earned $9.18 Today!

Today’s Earnings: $9.18     |      Total Earned: $15.26      |      Remaining: $84.74

Overview

Day 5: On Friday, 19 Oct 2018, I was too busy with work and family obligations to earn money online for this monthly challenge.

Day 6: On Saturday, 20 October 2018, I was able to work for 2 hours after the kids went to bed. I started by trying to find a good audio file to transcribe; however, that proved more challenging than I thought so I went to Survey Junkie where I earned $1.41. Several of the surveys let me start them; however, after five minutes of clicking answers and moving through the surveys, they indicated I was no longer eligible and offered me one to three points just for trying. After ten surveys of varying lengths which took about 30 minutes, no additional surveys were available so I had to stop. See below screenshot.

When there were no additional surveys, I went back to my transcription site and found a really good audio file that I could hear. I spent an hour and 15 minutes transcribing and proofreading the file before submitting it. I earned $7.78.

Even though I am on the sixth day and have only earned $15.26, I believe it’s still possible to reach $100 if I stay consistent and do a little every day.

I remain determined. I’m going to keep on trying! 🙂

Until tomorrow!

Day 4: A Complete Bust! [$0.03 earned]

Today’s Earnings: $0.03     |      Total Earned: $6.08      |      Remaining: $93.92

Tonight was a complete bust. I earned an impressive $.03 cents from Survey Junkie. 😉 Below is what I did in support of my challenge.

Ibotta

In support of this month’s challenge to earn $100 via online sites, I downloaded the Ibotta app. I was excited to receive a Facebook advertisement that offered a, “$20 Welcome Bonus” which was $10 more than the email offer I received.

“Awesome,” I thought. “I can’t wait to be $20 closer to my goal!” How naive was I!

Ibotta

The sponsored ad in Facebook is misleading. It did not honor the $20 welcome bonus as advertised. The welcome bonus was actually $10. To keep the bonus, you have to earn $10 from your uploaded receipts within 30 days or you forfeit the bonus.

Ibotta 2Within the app, you will see two sections—”Featured Bonuses” and “Available.” In order to redeem the bonuses which range from 25 cents to $15, you have to purchase the item in one of the icons and then upload your receipt. In many instances, you have to buy more than one item within the icon to qualify for the bonus.

I was not familiar with several of the products or stores. I will keep an open mind to see if I can make this work throughout the month.

Transcriptions

I listened to several audio files to find one that I could transcribe without too much difficulty. They were either too hard to hear, the background noise was excessive, or the speaker’s accents were simply too strong. I listened to at least 20 of them but could not find one that was suitable.

It didn’t help that my best bud was snoring really loudly at my feet and I was really tired from today.

It is best to do transcriptions when you are not tired so you don’t provide customers with a poor transcription. You also don’t want to risk receiving a poor grade by submitting inaccurate work. I never take any chances with transcriptions. If I can’t do my best work, I won’t accept one.

My old boy

I couldn’t bear to end the day without earning something so I turned to Survey Junkie. I did a quick survey for a whole three cents. I tried a few other surveys; however, they were no longer available after I answered a few initial questions.

Earning $100 online is much harder than I thought. Remind me not to quit my day job!

Cheers! Until tomorrow …

Claire

Day 3: Money-Making Challenge Continued

Earnings: $6.05 for 55 minutes of work.

This evening, I dedicated two hours to my 30-day challenge to earn $100. I earned $6.03 from doing transcriptions and $.02 cents from Survey Junkie.

Survey Junkie Earnings

In an effort to earn money from the other sites I identified in yesterday’s blog post, Day 2: Online Jobs That Pay Via PayPal, I did additional research and figured out what steps to take to start earning money from them.

Survey Junkie

Survey Junkie often shows up in recommended online job articles so I was curious to test it. This site gives you the opportunity to complete surveys in exchange for cash. Once you have reached 1,000 points, the equivalent of $10.00, the money will transfer to your PayPal account.

Each survey is assigned a specific number of points which translates into cents. For example, if you complete a 100 point survey, you get $1.00. A 50 point survey would be 50 cents. In the upper right-hand corner of the survey, you will see the approximate time it takes to complete a survey. See below screenshot. If you did three surveys worth 100 points each that take you 20 minutes, you would earn $3.00 for that hour. This might not be the best use of your time unless, of course, you’re sitting in front of the tv or traveling somewhere as a passenger, and don’t mind answering survey questions while you wait to get to your destination.

I accessed Survey Junkie and did one survey for a whopping $.02 cents.

Transcription Services

QuickTate: The application process for this company requires three references, a quiz, typing test, and a background check for which you have to pay them $20.00 by PayPal or credit card. One of the guidelines for my challenge was to avoid paying money for classes, background checks, etc. For this reason, I did not apply to this company. To view the QuickTate employment requirements, click here.

TranscribeMe: I provided the basic information to become a transcriptionist. I’m at the stage where I need to take exams in the languages I plan to transcribe. I will save these for another night. To apply to TranscribeMe, click here.

Rev: I passed their grammar and transcription exams last month when I started exploring online work options. Tonight, I earned $6.03 for transcribing a 12-minute, 4-second interview in 53 minutes. The faster you type, the better. I type 60 to 70 words a minute; however, I often have a hard time hearing what is being said which significantly slows me down. You will not become rich doing transcriptions but you can earn extra money. To become a transcriptionist, click here.

Ibotta

Ibotta is a free mobile app that gives shoppers the opportunity to earn cash back on purchases after uploading a copy of their receipt. Tonight, I signed up for Ibotta. I still need to add the mobile app to my phone and explore this option further. To access Ibotta, click here.

Foap

You can use Foap to turn your photographs into money. The first step is to download their app to your phone which I will do later in the week. Tonight, I read through their site, watched the video, and learned a bit more about the company. Photos are licensed to buyers for $10.00. $5.00 goes to Foap and the other $5.00 is yours to keep. I have yet to try this; however, I am curious to see if any of my photos would sell. To access Foap, click here.

eJury

I read through the requirements to become an eJury member which you can access here. I will fill out the application process another night since it is almost 11pm here. This site is area dependent. If lawyers in your area do not use eJury, you will not have access to any cases. I will sign up and give it a try though.

Let the challenge continue. Until tomorrow …

Day 2: Online Jobs That Pay Via PayPal

Today, I reviewed all of the links in the blog post, How to Make Money Online: 45 Recommended Ways to Earn Extra Cash.

I eliminated the companies that do not pay via PayPal from my 30-day challenge.

I started with 45 ideas and ended with the following five sites:

  1. Survey Junkie
  2. Ibotta
  3. Transcriptionist (TranscribeMe, Quicktate, Rev)
  4. Foap
  5. eJury

I was surprised to find that most of the companies pay via gift cards. Several of the ideas in the article were investment companies or actual jobs, which I was not looking for so I eliminated those from this challenge.

I have decided to pursue the challenge with the above sites. If, after a week, I don’t have enough options, I will do more research and add other online jobs that pay via PayPal.

I hope to start testing these sites in the next day or two.
